Pregnancy care with your own midwife

Appointments with Rachel can be your one-stop-shop for pregnancy care.

Aside from you and your baby's  health, we give you time to understand how your pregnancy is progressing, ask questions and plan your next steps.

You can start as soon as you know you are pregnant, or join us later.

Choose ongoing care or book to talk through a particular concern.

What actually happens at your first appointment?

We start by getting to know you: your health, any previous pregnancies or births, medications, support at home and how you are feeling about this pregnancy.

You can bring your partner or another support person.

We review the information you already have, provide referrals for diagnostic tests you need, discuss your intended place of birth and work out if and how your care needs to fit with your hospital, GP or obstetrician.

Your appointment can include:
  • Blood pressure and other relevant clinical checks.
  • Review of existing blood tests, screening and ultrasound results.
  • Discussion of screening options, including what each test can and cannot tell you.
  • Requests for appropriate pathology, scans and referrals.
  • Prescriptions for medications.
  • Assessment of your baby's heartbeat, growth and position when appropriate for your stage of pregnancy.
  • Practical education and advice to prepare you for pregnancy.
  • Time for symptoms, emotional wellbeing, questions and an ongoing care plan.

You leave knowing what is happening next, which investigations are due and when we will review the results.

What happens at a return appointment?

We check in on you, review results and assess how your pregnancy is progressing.

The discussion changes with your stage of pregnancy: early symptoms and screening, your baby's movements and growth, or practical education to prepare for birth and feeding.

Bring the questions you have saved on your phone. We can explain a recommendation, talk through your options and arrange further care when needed.

Why the checks change as pregnancy progresses

Each appointment follows your stage of pregnancy and individual needs.

Blood pressure, test results, your symptoms and later assessments of your baby's growth help us recognise when closer monitoring or specialist care may be needed.

If you are worried about your baby's movements or another urgent symptom, contact your maternity service promptly rather than waiting for a routine appointment.

Blood tests and pathology during your visit

Where clinically appropriate, we can take blood and collect other pathology samples during your appointment.

Combining collection with your visit can save you time and another trip elsewhere.

Care alongside your existing providers

We can be your sole pregnancy provider, or our visits can fit with your existing care with GP's, Obstetrician's and the hospital.

We will provide advice when referral for further assessment is needed.

Regular clients can also access short bulk-billed telehealth appointments for non-urgent concerns when clinically appropriate.
