Pregnancy options and miscarriage care

Clear information, practical help and care that respects your decisions.

You may be unsure whether to continue a pregnancy, have decided on a termination, or be experiencing a miscarriage.

Rachel offers confidential, non-judgemental midwifery care to help you understand your options, arrange the care you need and receive follow-up.

Care through miscarriage

Rachel can assess your symptoms, arrange appropriate blood tests and ultrasound referrals, explain results and coordinate further assessment. Sometimes repeat testing is needed before the diagnosis is clear. Treatment starts after the diagnosis and suitability have been assessed.

Once a miscarriage is confirmed, Rachel can discuss waiting for the miscarriage to happen naturally, medical management using medicines, and referral for surgical care. Your health, symptoms, preferences and clinical findings guide the options offered.

For a suitable early miscarriage, Rachel can prescribe medicines to help the pregnancy tissue pass, together with appropriate pain relief or anti-nausea treatment. Specialist or hospital care is arranged when needed.

Pregnancy options

Understanding your pregnancy options

If you are unsure what you want to do, Rachel can explain your options, answer questions and help you access further information or counselling if you would find it useful. Your decisions are respected. You can also book when you have already decided and simply want practical help arranging care.

Help arranging termination

A termination or abortion ends a pregnancy using medicines or a procedure. Rachel coordinate appointments with suitable termination providers, explain results and coordinate referrals. Available options depend on how far along the pregnancy is and your circumstances. Rachel provides checks, coordinates with your provider and provides ongoing support through your recovery.

Follow-up and care for your recovery

After a miscarriage or termination, Rachel can review your recovery, bleeding, pain and results; arrange investigations; and coordinate further care. There is time to discuss practical recovery, support at home and how you are feeling. Rachel can arrange additional emotional or psychological support if you would like it.

Appointment length and costs

Miscarriage care and support is bulk billed for eligible Medicare patients, with no out-of-pocket cost for eligible appointments. Miscarriage appointments allow 90 minutes initially and 60 minutes for return care.
